The Ludington Area Jaycees Mini Golf Course, located on the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Ludington Avenue in Stearns Park, is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. The classic course is affordable and fun for all ages. A portion of the profits from the course are donated back to other local community non-profit organizations every year.
Beginning in 2015, the Jaycees pursued a complete overhaul of the course and it was reopened in June of 2016. With the help of state grant funds and sponsorships the course has been completely revitalized with the hopes of bringing in more money to be donated back into community projects. A new theme, talked about by the Jaycees for several years, has been implemented on the renovated course and encompasses educational and historical obstacles and highlights local attractions. The Landmarks of Ludington theme fits in with other community efforts which focus on the rich history of Ludington and Mason County.
A Grand Re-opening Celebration is planned for Saturday, July 1st from 11 am- 1 pm. Guest speakers will first take the podium and, at 11:45 am, the Ludington/Scottville Chamber of Commerce will perform a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The public is invited to attend the celebration and enter to win a family pack of 5 mini golf passes, as well as enjoy refreshments. Cost to play this year is $7 for adults (in honor of the Ludington Area Jaycees’ 70th anniversary), $5 for children (in honor of the Mini Golf’s 50th anniversary), and free for kids under 5.
The Ludington Area Jaycees’ Miniature Golf Course was opened in 1967 for the sole purpose of generating funds to support community projects. Since that year, over $300,000 has been donated by the club to local initiatives. Proceeds from the mini golf are only used to support local charitable organizations and causes with zero dollars going toward the Ludington Area Jaycees’ chapter projects. Mini Golf proceeds are distributed after passing through the following steps: (1) Community group written requests (2) Major Projects Committee’s approval (3) Approval of the Jaycees General Membership.
One way the Jaycees utilizes it’s business to benefit other organizations is through Charity Mondays. Every Monday throughout the summer, 30 percent of the proceeds from that day’s mini golf earnings is donated to a selected nonprofit. The nonprofit can also promote their organization with displays and exhibits at the Mini Golf from noon to 9 p.m. during Charity Mondays. Nonprofits wanting to participate in Charity Mondays can contact Mary at (231) 690-2020.
The Jaycees are still collecting donations and accepting course sponsorships to help fund this project which will enable the club to filter more money back into our community through increased sales.
